Bromide Toxicity Case Linked to ChatGPT Health Advice

A 60-year-old man was hospitalized for three weeks after replacing table salt with sodium bromide following ChatGPT advice. Physicians reported he had no prior psychiatric issues but developed paranoia, hallucinations, and attempted escape after self-administering bromide. The case, published in Annals of Internal Medicine, revealed ChatGPT suggested bromide as a salt replacement without health warnings. Bromide toxicity, once common in early 1900s medications, now occurs with internet access to bromide-containing products. The man used bromide for three months, with no prior medical history. OpenAI states ChatGPT isn't for medical treatment.
