France Finalizes Rape Definition Bill

France's Senate approved a rape law redefining it as non-consensual sexual acts.
Law was prompted by the Pelicot trial, which convicted 51 men and sentenced Dominique Pelicot to 20 years.
Consent is defined as freely given, informed, and specific, not inferred from silence.
Senators voted 327-0 with 15 abstentions to pass the law.
Advocacy groups praised the law, while far-right lawmakers opposed it.
France joins Germany, Spain, and Sweden in consent-based legal frameworks.
