Google Chrome Browser Fate Decided in Antitrust Case

U.S. District Judge Amit P. Mehta ruled Google can keep Chrome but must stop exclusive contracts and share search data with competitors.
Antitrust case began in 2020 when Department of Justice and states sued Google for maintaining a search monopoly through deals with Apple, Samsung, and AT&T.
Mehta ordered Google and DOJ to meet and confer by September 10, with a technical committee enforcing a six-year judgment.
Google plans to appeal the decision, potentially delaying remedies and extending the trial to 2027 or 2028.
Mehta's ruling impacts AI 'answer engines' and ad-tech trials in the tech industry.
