Human rights violations by M23 rebels and state forces in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo

Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International have found severe human rights abuses in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), including executions and gang rapes by M23 rebels. The Congolese state forces are also implicated. The UN describes the eastern DRC conflict as one of the most serious humanitarian crises globally. Additionally, Sudanese residents are rebuilding Khartoum after two years of war, with reconstruction costs estimated at $700 billion. Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania are co-hosting the African Nations Championship quarter-finals, aiming to highlight unity.
