2-K Program Targets High-Need Communities in New York

Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Gov. Kathy Hochul announced 2-K program launch this fall for free child care for two-year-olds in four high-need communities.
Implementation uses existing child care centers and home-based providers with rolling admissions through Dec. 31.
State funds $73 million for 2,000 seats, planning $425 million to expand to 12,000 by fall 2027.
Parents will save thousands this fall.
