Canada's Citizenship Applications Rise Post-Bill C-3

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada received over 12,000 citizenship-by-descent applications from Dec. 15 to January 31.
Bill C-3 allows citizenship claims for those born abroad to Canadian parents with at least three years in Canada.
Americans filed 2,500 applications, UK 290, Mexico 235, and others like China, India, Germany had 75-120 each.
The department approved 6,300 applications, but only 1,480 qualified under C-3.
Stephen Harper's prior legislation was found unconstitutional by an Ontario Superior Court.
