EU and U.S. Address Minerals Trade Concerns

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic signed a memorandum on critical minerals partnership to diversify supply chains and reduce China reliance.
Sefcovic warned that overconcentration of critical minerals in a few regions is a risk, with China using its processing power as geoeconomic leverage.
EU remains U.S.'s largest trading partner in 2025 with €555 billion trade value.
U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer announced a separate plan to address non-market practices in critical minerals supply chains.
Trade talks were labeled 'very positive' by Greer and Sefcovic, focusing on tariffs and supply security for minerals.
Rubio emphasized the need for diverse supply chains before signing the memorandum.
