NASA's Carbothermal Reduction Project Completes Lunar Propellant Testing

NASA's Carbothermal Reduction Demonstration project completed testing on Feb 13, 2026.
Project aims to produce propellant and oxygen from lunar materials using solar energy, adaptable for Mars.
Prototype combined Sierra Space reactor, NASA Glenn solar concentrator, Composite Mirror Applications mirrors, NASA Kennedy avionics, and NASA Johnson project management.
Solar-driven process produced oxygen and confirmed carbon monoxide as a byproduct with simulated lunar regolith.
