He was an Italian auto racing champion and Paralympic gold medalist.
Made Formula One debut in 1991.
Back-to-back CART championships in 1997 and 1998.
Lost both legs in 2001 crash, transitioned to para-cycling.
Won four gold and two silver medals at 2012 London and 2016 Rio Games.
